  Black Publicity FAQs

1)     Why do I need publicity?

Every business needs publicity.  Without it, no one knows what you do or who you are.  Word of mouth is important, but it is also slow and time-consuming. A good publicity strategy, with the right training, guidance and preparation, can give you a wonderful return on your investment.  If you are a public speaker, you are not going to get demand for your services or the speaking fee you deserve if you are not an established brand.

2)     What do you do that other companies do not?

First and foremost, we care about our clients.  We want to grow with your business, and we want to see you successful.  Secondly, we have a great deal of experience dealing with local and national media in all platforms.  Third, we have a massive e-blast list of 30,000 African Americans who want to buy your product, in addition to a set of online platforms that get you direct access to your audience.  So, the truth is that our services are more like advertising than PR, since there is not as much of a guessing game when you actually own the media platform.  Our track record is one of proven success. Finally, we incorporate all forms of media into getting your name out, not just the traditional ones.

Here is a more specific list of things we can offer that make our company highly unique:

1)     Our e-blast list:  We’ve spent over $100,000 building a massive, nation-wide e-blast list that focuses primarily on the black community.

2)      Expertise: We’re very good at getting our message out to the public.  We’ve had clients appear on nearly every major television outlet, and we also know how to get your message to the public in many other ways.

3)      We focus on advertising, not just PR: We are not as much of a PR firm as we are an ad agency.  We advertise you to your target audience and build your brand that way.  That takes out the guessing game of media pitch calls and guarantees an amount of exposure that is consistent with your monthly investment.

4)      Our Blog Network:  We have dozens of strong blogs with strong traffic that are highly indexed in the search engines.  We can expose your message to your target audience by using these blogs to get you out there.

5)      Media Contacts: Should you purchase one of the packages which focus on reaching out to traditional media, we have a high quality priority database that allows us to make sure your press releases are put in front of the right eyeballs.

3)     Are my results guaranteed?

Unfortunately, there are few guarantees when it comes to publicity.  The only thing we can guarantee is that the audience we have with our platforms will surely get your message.  This is a high quality audience of educated African Americans.  We can also guarantee that if you push a press release through our company, that release will be marketed to the media so that they will have a choice regarding whether or not to reach out to you for an interview.  Additionally, if you pay for media pitch calls, we can guarantee that the person making the calls on your behalf will do all the necessary follow-up to explore every available opportunity.  Finally, we can guarantee that we will provide consultation to help you craft your message to make it more media-friendly.

4)      What is your philosophy on getting good publicity for a company or project?

Our philosophy on black publicity or any publicity is that publicity should not be something that you do “every now and then”.  Getting good black publicity is a matter of having a consistent effort, leading to a strong long-term relationship with the Black American public.  Publicity should be part of your long-term, permanent business strategy and you should consider your publicity efforts to be part of a capitalization, adding value to your brand, rather than a short-term expense.  Some people feel that fame just happens by luck, that someone discovers them and they instantly land on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  This is wrong.  "Becoming famous" is a long grind of hard work and consistent investment. There is a great deal of competition, and the truth is that if you don't invest in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to invest in you?

5) What is Black Publicity anyway?

We define Black publicity as media out reach efforts that either target the African American community, or media efforts generated for the general media that are initiated by Black-owned businesses or business selling a Black product.  We do not exclusively work in the Black media arena (you can see that many of our clients have received national media exposure in many non-Black media outlets).   However, we want to be clear that our niche specialty is appealing to Black media and selling Black brands to the general public or African American audiences.

  6)     How do I get started?
